Tomatoes
Sun-ripened tomatoes bursting with flavor, harvested at peak ripeness for the best taste
Storage
Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Never refrigerate unless fully ripe - cold temperatures destroy flavor and create a mealy texture. For longer storage, keep stem-side down on a plate.
Shelf Life
7-10 days at room temperature, up to 2 weeks if harvested slightly underripe. Our farm-fresh tomatoes last 2-3 times longer than grocery store varieties.
Flavor & Texture
Sweet and acidic with a juicy, tender texture. Heirloom varieties offer complex flavors ranging from smoky to wine-like, while cherry tomatoes provide concentrated sweetness.
Prep Tips
No need to peel for most uses. To easily peel for sauces, score an X on the bottom and blanch in boiling water for 30 seconds. Remove seeds for less watery sauces by cutting in half and gently squeezing.
How to Use It
- Fresh in salads and sandwiches
- Roasted with olive oil and herbs
- Slow-cooked into rich sauces
- Grilled for smoky flavor
- Raw with just salt and pepper
Tastes Great With
basil, mozzarella, olive oil, garlic, oregano, balsamic vinegar, feta, cucumber, corn, peaches
Watch Out For
Green shoulders on heirloom varieties are normal and edible. Late season tomatoes may have thicker skins due to cooler nights. Never store in plastic bags - they need to breathe!
Fun Fact
Tomatoes were considered poisonous in Europe for over 200 years because wealthy people ate them off lead plates, which leached lead into the acidic fruit.
